Hataraku-maou-sama
Announced in March 2021 as the surprise of the decade, Season 2 of Hataraku Maou-sama! won today another trailer and illustration confirming the new technical team.
The anime will premiere in July 2022 adapted by the studio 3Hz replacing White Fox who performed an excellent work in Season 1 of 2013 (13 episodes).
Many did not even believe in the continuation of the anime since possible disagreements between the producers shelved the project 8 years ago, even with the success acquired.
The 3Hz studio is seen as good/average, delivering well-crafted animes when they put in the effort. In the technical team, two names return from 2013: Masahiro Yokotani remains as scriptwriter and Ryousuke Nakanishi will again compose the soundtrack.
However, other important positions have undergone changes: the general direction will now be by Daisuke Tsukushi (although experienced he was director of the disappointing "Isekai Cheat Magician"), the animation direction will be in charge of Yoshihiro Takeda (he held the same position in episodes of " Shirobako") and character design will be done by Yudai Iino (was a key animator on "Seishun Buta Yarou").
The presence of this last professional explains the change in the look of the characters compared to Season 1.
Hataraku Maou-sama! tells the story of Sadao Maou, former king of darkness in a fantasy world who, defeated by the heroine Emylia and the human army, decides to flee to another dimension, accidentally falling into modern Japan.
However on Earth magic is just a myth for that reason Sadao and his faithful servant Ashiya lose most of their powers. Forced to survive as a mortal, the great king of darkness is now an employee of a fast food chain while Emylia, who also came here, works as a telemarketing receptionist until she manages to capture him.
The series is based on the light novel by author Satoshi Wagahara published between 2011 and 2020 with illustrations by artist 029. Very well received, the first anime (2013) won a score of 7.79/10 in more than 780,000 votes, being among the 100 most searched titles until today. on Myanimelist (Note: This rating and position are assigned by users and may vary with new votes computed).
