Love Lab Characters
Riko Kurahashi (voiced by Manami Numakura) is a student at the excellent Fujisaki Academy, an all-girls high school. Nicknamed Wild (Savage) she is admired by the other students due to her bold and cool style in addition to her strong personality. Despite the popularity Riko was a little bored with her school life as she studied a lot to get into that high school, but everything seemed bland.
On any given school day, she watches from afar none other than Natsuo Maki, (voiced by Chinatsu Akasaki) the number one girl in school. Student council president besides being very beautiful, efficient and well educated Maki is a girl above suspicion. Upon receiving a request to deliver some papers to the student council room, Riko opens the door without knocking and finds Maki passionately kissing a dakimakura with a brush drawing of a boy. Dakimakura is a kind of huge pillow that you can hug the whole body, something very common in japan being sold mainly containing illustrations of anime characters. Riko had stepped into a blast mine and discovered the secret that Maki was hiding from everyone else.
The girl had never been in love nor had a boyfriend and practiced every day alone how she would give her first kiss or have her first date, in addition to being obsessed with the subject, even giving the name Daki to the boy drawn by hand on the pillow while being on the edge. from believing he is real, his secret has been discovered. Maki is the definitive representation of the hilarious, she is clumsy, air-headed, somewhat naive, crazy about ideas, anxious and deeply inexperienced when it comes to dating.
From unknown Riko becomes her friend and love counselor especially after she lied saying that she was already experienced in love and had dated several times before, being she as inexperienced in the matter as her new friend. Love Lab is of unparalleled intelligence in its plot, the comic moments both visual and verbal draw laughter without effort. To complete the confusion, other people also discover the secret of the new friends. Suzune Tanahashi (voiced by Inori Minase) is a shy and short girl who came to deliver some documents to Maki but getting scared with her sudden arrival and very embarrassed not knowing what to do, Suzune hides and unintentionally overhears the love training. what Maki did in secret, being shocked by the contrast between his always polite and polite public image and his completely brainless and screw loose private posture. Not stopping there, two more girls also discover the secret. Yuiko Enomoto (voiced by Ayana Sakura) and Sayori Mizushima (voiced by You Taichi). Enomoto is a redhead and tsundere, she was the former student council president with Maki as her vice president but as the girl did all the work alone Eno got angry and left the position wishing Maki had problems for taking all the responsibility and desperate to come to ask for help, something that never happened. Maki ended up ignoring her and this made Eno possessed with rage. Sayori is my favorite character, with her hilarious square glasses she is sadistic, crazy about money and even with a good heart she gets to be a little mean especially when she notices some lie or moral flaw in someone and then nudges whenever she can. All this is exposed in the anime in such a fun way that Sayori ends up becoming one of the most beloved, funniest and charismatic characters in Love Lab. She was actually the student council treasurer but as Maki realized she wanted the money for her own use even thinking about buying a Nintendo 3DS or a Playstation 4, so Maki fired her. This quintet of brainless girls become friends on the unlikely student council by researching details on the art of dating like how to dress attractively, how to show your neck, how to behave on a first date... and so on. Maki's mayonnaise trips, Riko's hot temper, Eno's tsunderisse, Suzune's shyness and Sayori's greedy sarcasm provoke laughter and more laughter throughout 13 hilarious episodes. Love Lab gives a lesson in humor. It is not very common to see such a well thought-out plot and equally creative situations. The funny moments aren't scarce or used as trump cards here and there to keep the audience going, they're there all the time and in every episode.
